our Guests will arrive at Kolhapur Airport/ Railway Station as per the scheduled arrival time and proceed to hotel. Upon arrival, they will meet Veena world tour manager.Today we visit, Shahu Palace – a historical landmark in Kolhapur built using black stone is a residence Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja. Then we stroll around Rankala Lake – popular evening spot and recreation centre of the city.
Today we visit Shree Mahalaxmi Ambadevi Temple – built in Chalukya architectural style this temple is dedicated to Mahalaxmi along with Mahavishnu and is worshipped by locals as Ambabai. Then we see Kushti Akhada and experience glimpses of daily routine of Pailwans.Then we get an opportunity to taste and shop various kind of jaggery in nearby local market. Later we proceed to Panhala Fort – initially built by Raja bhoja in the late 12th century and later modified by Marathas.
The Indo-Islamic style fort is famously known for being residences to the great Maratha ruler Shivaji and the Queen Regent of Kolhapur - Tarabai. Here we see, Bale Killa, Andhar Bavadi – a three-storey structure that kept the main water source of the fort hidden from the besieging enemies and protected it against poisoning, Ambarkhana – looming granaries situated at the heart of the fort that helped Shivaji Maharaj to withstand the long siege of 5 months by Siddhi Johar before the famous Battle of Pavan Khind, Kalavanticha Mahal – Mahal was used by the Bahamanis as the residence for the court ladies, Sajja Kothi – a single-storey structure looking over the deep valley below and was used as an imprisonment chamber for Sambhaji by the orders of his father, Shivaji. Teen Darwaza, Chor Darwaza, Wag Darwaza and Rajdindi Bastion – a Secret exit out of this grand fort that was used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to escape during the battle of Pavan Khind.
Today we proceed to Khidrapur – small village on the banks of Krishna River. Here we visit Kopeshwar Temple – a beautiful ancient Shiva Temple known for its exquisite carvings, elephant pillars and ancient architecture. Temple’s exterior reveals a captivating narrative of intricate carvings and symbolic representations. Most remarkable is the Harihar roopa of Shiva which is fusion of two deities—Shiva and Vishnu. The we visit Siddhagiri Math also known as Siddhagiri Gramjivan Museum. This museum showcases different aspects of Gramjivan. This initiative was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and was created through the vision and efforts of the Siddhagiri Gurukul Foundation.Later we drive back to Kolhapur, upon arrival we have free time for shopping of world famous Kolhapuri footwear and Kolhapuri Saaj – authentic handmade jewelry known for its intricate designs and grandeur.
Today we proceed to Amba Ghat – located at the height of 2000 ft. above sea level, Amba ghat has a historical significance as it served as bridge between Kolhapur and Konkan provinces during reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Upon arrival, we take a Jeep safari through the region to see Devrai.
In the afternoon, we visit Pawankhind – a mountain pass previously known as Ghodkhind is the place where trusted Maratha warrior Bajiprabhu Deshpande and his 300 comrades fought against army of 10,000 soldiers of AdilShah until Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reach to the Vishalgad Fort. After hearing cannon firing from Vishalgad Bajiprabhu scarified his life to protect the King and hence the place was renamed as PawanKhind which means a sacred pass where Bajiprabhu Deshpande and other Maratha Warriors happily honored lives to protect their king. Here we see Newly built Bastion and Pawankhind Memorial. Enroute, we take a photo stop at Manoli Dam view point and Konkan Darshan view point.
